4 channel real-time video manipulation performance
Performance installation presented by commission with:
Soliloquy III | P.P.O.W. Gallery | New York City | 17 September 2011
Performers: Joshua Seidner, Alexander Abel | Sound and Video: Collective BLVCK AMERICA
Photo: Charles Billot | Costumes: TELFAR
UV Nile is an immersive, start-stop performance that draws connections between spiritualism, exoticism, false-idolatry and themes of tribal unity in 90's rave culture. The piece casts the gallery space as a house of worship; the performer as a high priest; and each spectator as a congregant. Throughout the night, collective BLVCK AMERICA projects multiple layers of live video and sound to isolate the most escapist elements of contemporary nightlife. In response, Joshua Seidner, prompted by constant and intermittent siren interruptions, borrows aspects of Egyptian initiation ritual, go-go worship, and glossolalia to offer both himself and a younger disciple as an objectified, mummy-wrapped, father-and-son of the cloth. Slowly transforming a secular experience into one of mystical reverence, UV Nile uncovers oft-overlooked connections between nihilistic artifice and holy abandon that characterize much of underground club culture. Duration 2h.

Ready-To-Wear Fall/Winter 2013 Interactive App Presentation
@NEW YORK GALLERY
January 12, 2013 - February 23, 2013
Opening Reception: January 12, 6 - 8pm

For this latest outing, TELFAR returns to the idea of urban protection with a range of unisex pieces made from durable materials like denim, cotton and flannel. These archetypal basics have been quilted in various ways as a primary form of insulation, but also to create new forms and silhouettes that straddle the divide between the functional and ornamental.

In accordance to new digital trends, the collection will be presented across various media platforms. The gallery space will feature prototype all-white garments, displayed on special commercial fixtures produced by Lizzie Fitch with Nick Rodrigues. These include a mannequin, display racks, as well as a gaming station for the interactive video game, 'TELFAR Style,' designed by Alan Schaffer.

The virtual game mirrors the gallery set up and players are invited to alter the collection according to their own styling needs, changing the color and coordination of individual pieces. Hosted simultaneously on the DIS Magazine website, the game will play throughout the duration of the exhibition. At the closing, winning player looks will be selected and the white prototype garments dyed and styled accordingly to activate them from their latent state. These transformed pieces will be presented in the TELFAR runway presentation that will take place during New York Fashion Week in February.

Interactive 3D installation
InInternetWeTrust, is an interactive audio-visual installation, where the user explores a 3D Virtual environment. Aesthetically, the piece references the immersive nature of virtual spaces, the domestication of media production and consumption, and the unfulfilling realization of our SCI-FI utopias. Physically, the installation places the participant at an alter-like structure in front of a television screen, requiring the user to kneel or sit. The digital spaces reflect some of the latest changes occurring in culture, transforming many societies into cyber-societies through the process of virtualization.
