Alan Schaffer is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer based in New York City. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he earned his BFA in Graphic Design from Madrid's Istituto Europeo di Design in 2007 and his MFA in Computer Art from School of Visual Arts, New York, in 2011 while also attending the NYU Project Management program. Alan's focus within the SVA Masters program included both programming and interactive installation, and his explorative art and design work concentrates on user interaction and the field of visual communication.


Alan establishes immediate viewer familiarity through the use of common digital symbols. Combining these symbols with creative user interfaces Alan allows the viewer to interact and experience the work on their own terms. As Alan's practice is based in digital technology, his appreciation for the history of technological evolution is evident in each interface. Having grown up with the advent of computer as game console, "games" such as Mario-Paint or Simcity make their minimalist mark in his work. Alan's work takes on the quality of a collage or remix, engaging in non-linear narratives to capture a compressed experience of contemporary life. Alan Schaffer's influences, visual language and artistic practices combine to reflect pop- and socio-cultural shifts within digital technology.
